John came to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church as Head of Staff in 2013 after serving churches in New Jersey, Minnesota and Pennsylvania. His passion is preaching, and he practices a form of collaborative preaching which involves congregation members in sermon formation. He holds his Roundtable gatherings several times a year. John is very involved in the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia and recently served as Moderator. One of his hobbies is restoring and driving his 1960 Austin Mini.
John’s family is his greatest joy. Ellen enjoys being involved in a variety of ways in the church and in the local community. She is an advocate for the role of children and youth in our church. She loves cooking, menu planning, eating local foods and global cuisines. Ellen serves on the Open Door Concert Series Committee and is passionate about sharing live music with our community. She enjoys working remotely in technical sales for the software industry.
John and Ellen have two married daughters; Erica and Marcello Herrera live in Arlington VA and have a daughter Sienna. Grace Morgan and Ziad Achkar live in Washington, DC.
