PUTTING Faith into Action
Opportunities from the Hunger & Homeless Team
Many people want to put their faith into action by serving others but aren't sure where to begin. If you've been looking for a meaningful way to help in our community, the Hunger & Homeless Team of WPC's Christian Outreach Ministry offers many opportunities to get involved throughout the year.
Whether you can serve regularly or participate in an occasional event, there is a place for you.
Ongoing Opportunities to Serve
Volunteers are currently involved in a variety of ministries that address hunger and housing insecurity in our community. Opportunities include:
- Preparing Crock-Pot meals for neighbors living in local motels;
- Serving approximately 130 meals each month at area motels and at Grove Christian Outreach;
- Making monthly food donations to FISH;
- Preparing meals for the Summer Meals for Kids program, which serves approximately 300 children each week;
- Repairing homes and completing yard work projects through Housing Partnerships;
- Participating in the annual Day of Caring by assisting with yard work, clothing sorting, and repair projects at Grove Christian Outreach.
Upcoming Opportunities to Serve
Looking ahead, there are several opportunities to join others from WPC in hands-on service:
- Joining WPC's team for Habitat for Humanity's annual Eastern Shore event on October 8–10;
- Packaging meals during Rise Against Hunger on November 21;
- Volunteering during WPC's Winter Shelter week (dates to be announced).
Partner Agencies Seeking Volunteers
WPC also supports a number of local agencies that welcome volunteers. If one of these organizations aligns with your interests and gifts, we encourage you to explore ways to get involved:
- Avalon Center
- Faith In Action
- FISH
- Grove Christian Outreach Center
- House of Mercy
- Latisha's House
- Meals on Wheels
- Natasha House
- Salvation Army
If you would like more information about any of these opportunities, please contact the church office or reach out to Jim Kirkpatrick. We would be glad to help you find a place to serve that matches your interests, availability, and gifts.
Together, we can share Christ's love in practical ways and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.
