Prison Ministry's goal is to giving hope to Virginia Penitentiary Inmates. Volunteers participate in a 4-day weekend program held inside Sussex II State Prison two times per year. The purpose of the program is to help the inmates connect with God and demonstrate to them that God has not forgotten them. The in-prison program is for men only because it is a male prison. There are women's prisons if women wish to participate in the in-prison program. The entire congregation can participate in other ways. One is to bake cookies, which will be distributed to entire prison population. Another is to attend the closing ceremony at the prison at the conclusion of the weekend program. Visitors have to be preapproved through a Department of Corrections background check.
