Training That Equips for Life“Stephen Ministry training is extensive, but very rewarding and valuable. I think of this training as training for life. The skills of patient, attentive listening, non-judgmental compassion, and Christlike caring can be put into practice in any and all relationships.”

Watch: On Being a Stephen Minister
A Ministry That Blesses Both Giver and Receiver"I believe it is generally safe to say we like to like ourselves. I get to like myself regularly. As a Stephen Minister I help others in need with no down side. Stephen Ministers meet others where they are with no pressure to fix but only to listen. It feels good."
— Toby Lane, Stephen Minister
What Stephen Ministers Do
Galatians 6:2 reminds us: “Bear one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
One of the ways we live out this call at WPC is through Stephen Ministry. Stephen Ministers provide individual care by meeting with members of our congregation experiencing grief, hospitalization, terminal illness, or other life difficulties.
Our whole church family benefits in many ways:
- Hurting people receive quality care during times of need
- Laypeople use their gifts in meaningful ministry
- Pastors are no longer expected to personally provide all the care that people need
- The congregation grows into a more caring community
Discovering the Spirit’s Presence“I have found a new way to love and care for our WPC family. As I meet with someone and share their struggles and joys, I feel the Holy Spirit’s presence in both of us. It is such a blessing!”
— Becky McKinley, Stephen Minister
