Responding to Hurricane Helene
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Williamsburg Presbyterian Church recently sponsored a mission trip to Western North Carolina. Organized by the Hunger and Homeless Team, eleven church members came together to offer help to those in need—and had a wonderful time doing it.
Partnering with Black Mountain Presbyterian Church
The team partnered with Black Mountain Presbyterian Church and split into two work crews on neighboring properties. One group tackled the removal of numerous large fallen trees for a church member. The second team focused on patching a hole in a roof and performing basement repairs for a woman with three children who had been displaced by the storm. The work was hard—but meaningful.
Gratitude and Greater Awareness
The mission team is deeply grateful for the support they received from WPC. They were also impressed by the compassionate and effective ministry being carried out by Black Mountain Church. Most of all, they returned home with a renewed awareness of the challenges faced by people in that region.
Mission Team Members
Participants included: Janet Spring, George Ebbs, Linda and Jim Hay, Bill McQuire, Arch Marston, Chuck Timko, Roy Stewart, Matt Slack, and Reid and Jim Kirkpatrick.
A Joyful Reflection
One team member shared the experience with a friend, mentioning how much fun they had despite the hard work. "When you’re doing the Lord’s work, you are always having a fun time.” That truly summed it up.
