Let's Think about Summer!

February 12, 2026

It’s cold outside, so I’m thinking about summer! We have many opportunities lined up for kids from elementary through high school. The focus of this article is on Camp Hanover, but please note the lineup of camps and conferences over the summer. If you wish to inquire, I am only an email or phone call away!

Camp is More than Fun and Games

The CE committee is strongly encouraging all families to consider sending their children to Camp Hanover this summer, July 20-24. Camp Hanover is a PCUSA camp just outside Richmond that welcomes hundreds of kids of all ages (1st-12th grade) every summer. Their mission statement is “…To create inclusive community, inspire each other to live in God’s love, and equip all people to live out God’s call. Our vision is a world where all people know God’s love and embrace beloved community.”

I attended a Christian summer camp every summer from 4th grade-11th grade and later worked as a counselor at that same camp. I strongly believe that those summers shaped my faith deeply, and I’m not the only one. I wanted to share this quote from Building Faith about the lasting impact of summer camp.

“There is an emerging body of research that demonstrates that camp is much more than fun and games. There is something deeply significant and deeply theological happening at Christian camps across the country. This research reveals the long-term impacts of camp, effects that go far beyond the ‘camp high’ that fades quickly after the experience.”

Join us for the July 20-24 Session at Camp Hanover

We are encouraging all kids, particularly those in rising 3rd-6th grade, to attend Camp Hanover for the July 20-24 session. To that end, we are offering $200 scholarships to offset the cost of camp and have additional funding available for those who need it, no questions asked. We will also be taking the bus as a group for drop-off on the 20th and pick-up on the 24th.

Free Family Fun Day on April 25

As one final encouragement, we are taking a group trip (all ages, preschool to senior) to Camp Hanover for their Family Fun Day on April 26! This is a totally free day to explore the property, enjoy camp activities, and be entered into a drawing for a free week of camp! This is a fantastic way to get a taste of camp, meet some of the leaders, and help your child get excited about the summer! RSVPs are required, so please register yourself and your children at this link. This is a group trip (another opportunity to ride the church bus!) and I’ll be there, but parents/guardians are required to supervise their own children at all times.

Family Fun Day April 25

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about camp. Families are responsible for registering their own children, but please notify me beforehand so I can let the camp know that you are part of our group and should receive the $200/person scholarship.
