Campus Ministry Happenings! A Spring 2026 Update

February 12, 2026

The Spring 2026 UKirk Semester is underway! Students arrived back on campus the week of January 18, and classes began on Wednesday, January 21. Despite the hiccup with snow, UKirk students have been able to gather for fellowship, community, and sharing of the word.

UKirk is looking forward to a full Spring semester, including the following:

  • From March 7-14, seven students, along with Bill Vardeman and CW Stacks, will travel to Guatemala during William & Mary’s Spring break. This group will continue the work with our sister church in Chajul, and our students can’t wait to bring the spirit of love and service of previous groups and continue that this March.
  • March 22 is UKirk Sunday, when the amazing UKirk students will take over all parts of the worship service . This service is not to be missed, as you will hear from our extremely talented college community. I hear there might even be a musical band with some of our finest UKirk students playing their instruments.
  • On April 18, UKirk students will participate in a lock-in/lock-out day retreat, using the church as home base. Plans are underway for this day that will include fun, service, community, and faith-building. I might be calling on some of our members to help, so be on the lookout for that invitation.

Members, both new and those who have been here for years, might be wondering what is meant by “UKirk.” Glad you asked! UKirk stands for “University Church” and is a network of ministries supported by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). It focuses on reaching, loving, and teaching college students to encourage them to become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.

Ways you can help with UKirk and our Campus Ministry Program at WPC:

  1. Provide Meals for Tuesday Evening Dinner & Dialogue. Every Tuesday evening, we gather as a group for a meal followed by dialogue. Dialogue is based on Bible passages our student planning committee has planned, and it’s a great time for the students to discuss their thoughts and converse. Our group has grown over the past year, and on average, we have about 15-20 students present on Tuesday nights. Please don’t let this number deter you from volunteering! Working in teams is encouraged, and I am also happy to offer meal ideas. Signing up is easy using the link below.
  2. Volunteer to become a Second Family at WPC. Many of our students would love to have a deeper connection with our members, and what better way to do that than to become their second family? It does not take anything special to become a second family, other than a willingness to check in when you see “your student” at service, give them a call or text to encourage them or just see how they are doing. And who doesn’t remember the fun treat of going out to lunch after church? I know we have a few students, especially some freshmen, who would love to start to build a connection with you over the next four years. Contact me (  or 757-229-4235) to inquire.
