Annual Blue Christmas Service • December 18

November 18, 2022

This year will be our 5th annual “Blue Christmas” service.  This is a service where we recognize that there are many moments in our lives where we yearn for consolation and ache for comfort. And while we know that no matter what happens to us, God is with us to comfort and support us, it doesn’t change the empty chairs in our lives. The holidays, and Christmas in particular, can be a time for many when we are in need of reassurance and comfort. Perhaps we are grieving over the loss of a loved one, struggling with illness, or have experienced the loss of a job. Maybe our empty chair is at the dining table due to distance and financial concerns, maybe it is in the pew beside us where friends once sat.  No matter where our empty chairs are, many of us wonder how we will get through the holidays.

The Service of Wholeness and Healing with the theme of “Blue Christmas” will  be held Sunday, December 18 at 3 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Those looking for comfort, hope, wholeness, and renewal joined the church leadership for a time of quiet reflection and meaningful words and music. For the good news of “God with us” is not limited to times of joy, but a remembering of a God with us in all times and places. The services usually is about 30 minutes in length. We have found that people who are grieving often find it difficult to concentrate for longer than that time period, and we want to allow time following worship for communal support of one another for those who need it.  We hope you will join us this year for “Blue Christmas.”
