Summer Meals for Kids Returns in June
This program supporting hungry students in the Williamsburg/James City County school system is in its 8th year of service. We are again working with community partners at Williamsburg Baptist Church, Walnut Hills Baptist Church and Community Chapel Williamsburg to prepare and assemble lunches each Wednesday between June 18 and August 20. We will be feeding 250 area children who are hungry because they are the recipients of meals at school when schools are in session.
Volunteering is easy and fun
- Lunches are prepared at the Meals on Wheels location at The WISC, 5700 Warhill Trail
- We start at 8:00am and are finished by 10:30am
- Our teams are responsible for Wednesdays, June 18 - August 20
- Contributions of home-baked cookies for the lunches are also welcome and a great outlet for your baking talents!
- Sign up for shifts and/or cookie baking below.
This is a great opportunity to serve those in need -and remember Jesus said when we help the least of these we are doing HIS will. It is also a great way to meet fellow Christians and to have fun as you work. Please go to the volunteer site and sign up for as many weeks as you would like to take on.
Food Drive
Another way to support Summer Meals for Kids is to participate in the Food Drive planned for Saturday, May 17, in the WPC back parking from 10 a.m. to noon. All donations collected will help provide snacks for the children receiving the summer meals. Just drive up, and WPC Christian Outreach volunteers will accept your donations.
Below is a list of items most needed. Where possible, versions with no sugar added are preferred for items like fruit juices and fruit cups. Please avoid products with nuts or peanut butter.
- Drinks (Bottles of water, juice boxes)
- Snacks - Individual servings of
- Granola Bars (no nuts please)
- Chips, cheese crackers or pretzels
- Fruit cups

The Christian Outreach Committee urges you to consider participating in this drive. If we all work together, we can help provide lunches for 250 children who receive free or subsidized school lunches during the school year. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Winthrop.
