Please join us! Presbyterian Women (PW) cordially invites all members and friends to the annual Local Mission Luncheon on Sunday, April 21, 2024, in Stevenson Hall directly following the 11am worship service. The luncheon will raise monetary support for FISH, Inc., the local nonprofit, all-volunteer organization that has helped our neighbors fulfill basic needs for almost 50 years.
A free and tasty luncheon will be hosted by PW Circles. Maura Rush, FISH Vice-President, will offer a short program to inform, enlighten, and update us on FISH mission and history, recent successes, current challenges and new opportunities. Learn more about pressing community needs, and simple ways we can help feed, clothe, and care for our neighbors in need.
A Long-term Community Partner
Our church has long supported FISH with monthly food drives, monetary grants, handmade scarves and hats, and member donations through the PW Gift of Christmas program. Several WPC members serve as loyal FISH volunteers, and others donate new and gently used clothing and housewares. (Note: WPC Outreach benevolences are also extended other local organizations addressing hunger and homelessness, including Greater Williamsburg Outreach Ministry (GWOM), Salvation Army, House of Mercy, and Grove Christian Outreach.) However, the needs are great, and in 2023 client requests for services outstripped donations.
We can help:
- Monetary donations enable FISH to purchase most-needed items at the lowest cost. Cash/check donations will be accepted at the Local Mission Luncheon on April 21, and by WPC (checks payable to Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, with PW Local Mission in the Memo Line). Donations may also be made online. Please submit donations by May 20, 2024.
- Support FISH food drives, sponsored by Outreach third Sunday of each month. In 2023, WPC filled and delivered 388 grocery bags of food to FISH! Check the red shopping cart in the back lobby for a handy “Shopping List” of basic items FISH needs most now.
- Updating, downsizing, or cleaning out closets? FISH needs basic new or gently used clothing and shoes (all sizes, children and adults), and housewares such as bed linens and towels, dishes and kitchen items, and small appliances. Deliver donations to the FISH Office, 312 Second St, Williamsburg, M-F, 10 AM-4 PM.
- Volunteer your time and talents. Join the more than 200 FISH volunteers who serve in myriad positions. Fellow WPC members who volunteer at FISH will be clearly identified and eager to answer questions at the Local Mission Luncheon.
