The WPC Endowment Committee recently made two grants that will touch many lives in the community. The committee meets four times yearly to evaluate grant requests in three categories: Charitable, Mission/Ministries, and WPC Building & Facilities. Forms to make grant requests are available from the church office and should be submitted by the 10th of the month: Jan, Apr, Jul, Oct.
Ella Fitzgerald Middle School
The EFMS Parent Teacher Association applied for and received a grant from WPC's Endowment Fund for student water bottles. The school recently replaced its conventional water fountains with water bottle filling stations, and with this grant, every student will receive their own personal water bottle with the EFMS logo on it.
Vanessa Gamble's daughter Juanita and granddaughter Alexis both work at this school and helped to initiate this grant request, which came from Tamecka Douglas, PTA Director.
This photo of the check presentation shows six Ella Fitzgerald Middle School students in the front row. Pictured in the back row, from left to right, are three generations of Singletary Gambles (Alexis, Juanita, and Vanessa), Tamecka Douglas, Hank Vernon, and EFMS Principal Dr. Jaraun Ransome. The picture was taken in the school library.
Housing Partnerships
Hank Vernon, WPC Endowment Fund member, recently presented an endowment grant check to Brandie Weiler, Executive Director of Housing Partnerships of Williamsburg. This grant of $5,000 will be used to purchase a portable wheelchair ramp (temporary use prior to construction of the permanent ramp) and materials for permanent wheelchair ramps and modifications to bathtubs for walk-in access.
