Bible Study Classes & Groups

Sunday Christian Education Classes

All are welcome to join these Adult Christian Education classes, currently conducted online each Sunday.

10:30am: Alpha (Present Word) Class. The Alpha (Present Word) Class does Bible study using our denomination's Present Word curriculum, which itself follows the lessons of the widely used Uniform Lesson series. Our current study (Spring 2020) is based on texts from the minor prophets of the Old Testament that were selected to highlight the topic "Justice and the Prophets."

Zoom Link @10:30am

11:00am: Thoughtful Christian Class. How can I help?

Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. – Galatians 6:2

Many are looking for ways to pitch in as they are able, and needs in the community continue to grow. We will accumulate a list of volunteer and donation opportunities here as we learn of them.

  1. House of Mercy - Williamsburg House of Mercy provides quality compassionate human services to all people, especially the most vulnerable, regardless of faith. They are on the front lines of providing groceries and other household items to a growing list of locals in need. The most critical need is for shelf-stable food. See the COVID-19 Updates page on their website for specific requests. Items can be dropped off at 10 Harrison Avenue, Williamsburg.
  2. American Red Cross - The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage, and it is very acute in this area. Please consider donating if you are able.
  3. Local Restaurants - Many of our local restaurants have closed temporarily, while others are adjusting operations to try to stay open and offer takeout options. They need our support! The Williamsburg Area Restaurant Association maintains a list of member restaurants who have reported their status, including delivery and pickup options.
  4. FISH Food Pantry - Although it is continuing to provide food donations to those in need on a limited basis, FISH cannot accept in-person donations of food, clothing or housewares during the Covid-19 emergency. You may still make monetary donations by mail or on-line via PayPal at the FISH website. The mailing address is FISH, Inc., 312 Waller Mill #800, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
  5. Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels - Meals on Wheels continues to serve its elderly  population and in addition has agreed to provide meals for children who depend on school Lunches. As a result  MoW is in need of volunteers and financial support. To donate to Williamsburg Area Meals On Wheels, volunteer or to inquire about getting meals delivered, call 757-229-9250 or visit wmbgmealsonwheels.com.
  6. Virginia Peninsula Foodbank - The Foodbank continues to meet the food needs of our community during this pandemic but they desperately need help to keep up with the demand!  You can help by donating food or organizing an actual or virtual food drive.  You can donate money or volunteer.  They need volunteers to staff two shifts at their warehouse in Hampton: 9am to 12pm and 1 to 3pm.  They have limited the shifts to 15 volunteers and are scattering the volunteers throughout their large warehouse facility to ensure social distancing. Please sign up to volunteer on their website or by contacting Jessica at jponce@hrfoodbank.org or (757) 596-7188, ext. 154.
  7. Community of Faith Ministries Food Drive
Local agencies are seeing 2 to 5 times the amount of clients they normally see for food and meals. To meet this need, the Community of Faith Mission (the local winter shelter program that WPC supports) is sponsoring a food drive.
