Giving Opportunities

In response to the annual Stewardship Campaign:

General Fund

The general fund supports the ongoing operation and ministries of our church, primarily through member and non-member annual stewardship pledges as well as weekly offerings.  Each year, the ministries of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church prepare annual budgets that are prayerfully reviewed and approved by Session to wisely utilize monetary resources from the general fund.

Specialized mission appeals:

Members and non-members also will be given the opportunity to help specific mission efforts at various times during the year, including:

  • Souper Bowl of Caring – a youth-led appeal for cash donations on Super Bowl Sunday that will support local charities in the Williamsburg area.
  • Mission Trip Fund – youth mission trips are a part of ongoing outreach in support of our church partners worldwide and selected service projects in the United States.  The mission trip fund provides supplemental and scholarship funding for our youth and college student participation.
  • One Great Hour of Sharing during Easter, this appeal enables our church to share God’s love with our neighbors-in-need around the world   providing relief to those affected by natural disasters, provide food to the hungry, and helping to empower the poor and oppressed.
  • Rise Against Hunger – early fall, opportunity for WPC members and many non-members to join together in preparing packaged meals (over 40,000 in 2016) to be distributed by international aid organization Rise Against Hunger to people in need around the world.
  • Christmas Joy Offering – during Advent, these gifts provide assistance to current and retired church workers in their time of need as well as developing our future leaders at Presbyterian-related racial ethnic schools and colleges.

Additional giving opportunities for bequests, memorial gifts or to support special funding needs:

Capital Reserve Fund

The capital reserve fund supports the long-term preservation and maintenance of the church building, grounds and essential operating equipment.  While a significant part of the annual budget is dedicated to funding the capital reserve, there is an ongoing need to build savings to help assure the long-term sustainability of our church.

Christian Outreach Fund

Mission work at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church ranges from helping fund local agencies in Williamsburg to supporting numerous worthy causes throughout our country and the world.  This fund provides financial support that is supplemental to our annual operating funding for Christian Outreach.

Endowment Fund

Its principal invested in perpetuity, interest earned from the endowment fund is used annually for three donor-designated purposes: (1) benevolent, educational and mission work; (2) support of the ministry of the church; and (3) enhancement of the church building.  Contributions to the endowment fund are generally made through specific bequests and memorial contributions.

Guatemala Mission Fund

Williamsburg Presbyterian Church has covenant partnerships with the Central Church in Guatemala City and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Chajul.  This fund provides financial support that is supplemental to our annual operating funding for the Guatemala mission.  Currently children’s schooling and pastoral education are targets for funding.

Music Fund

Music is an integral part of worship at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.  The music fund provides support for the purchase of music equipment, instruments and the engagement of musicians for special performances.
