Praise be to you, O God, for calling the church into being through the power of your Holy Spirit and for establishing your Son, Jesus, as its Head.

Thanks be to you for evangelists and apostles by whose witness and writings the church has been nurtured and guided.

Praise be to you for martyrs by whose suffering the church has been inspired and strengthened.

Thanks be to you for Reformers Zwingli, Calvin and Knox by whose faith and doctrine our own branch of the church catholic was established.

Praise be to you for the Presbyterian Church (USA) by whose witness to Jesus and by whose work for justice and peace your purposes have been advanced at home and abroad.

Thanks be to you for all of your saints whose love for you, whose love for each other and whose love for your world brought Williamsburg Presbyterian Church into being, for its pastors, elders and deacons whose ministries helped bring it to a condition of vitality and strength which it today enjoys.

Praise be to you for making us their heirs and for giving us the resources of time, ability and money needed to advance with energy and confidence what they bequeathed to us.

Thanks be to you for the communion of saints which has become a reality for us, both near and far, in our relationship with brother and sister believers in Congo, Guatemala, Eastern Virginia and here in Williamsburg.

Praise be to you for embracing in your care, even before we ask, those to whom this day brings more of pain than of blessing. . .those who suffer in body, mind or spirit. . .from injury, illness, disappointment or grief. . .neighbors unknown to us. . .and loved ones and friends whom we lift up to you by name. .

Thanks be to you for all who have loved and served you here on earth and who now live in eternal fellowship with you in heaven, especially those most dear to us whom we name in our hearts before you. . .

Keep us in communion with all your saints and bring us at last to the joy of your heavenly kingdom, through Jesus Christ our Lord in whose name and for whose sake we pray as he taught us, saying:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
